Carlos Murakami settled down in Stockholm in 1996 when he was accepted at the Royal College of Music (KMH) where he in 2003 completed his postgraduate studies with professor Staffan Scheja. He began playing the piano in Paris at age six with Pouy Landowski, and continued at the Boulogne-Billancourt Conservatory with Louis-Claude Thirion. He pursued his education in Spain, in Santander with Luis Angel Martinez and Michel Mañanes, and later in Madrid with Dimitri Bashkirov and Galina Egyazarova.
He has performed in the master classes of Dimitri Bashkirov, Michel Béroff, Eero Heinonen, Alicia de Larrocha, Hans Leygraf, Paul Roberts, György Sandor and Erik Tawaststierna. As Artist-in-Residence at the Banff Centre for the Arts (Canada) in 2000 he has worked with such eminent musicians as Lawrence Lesser, Jane Coop and David Takeno.

He has been awarded prizes in various competitions: First Medal at the Tournois du Royaume de la Musique (Paris 1988), Bronze Medal at the Claude Kahn piano Competition (Paris 1995) and Sixth Prize at the VI European Claude Kahn Piano Competition (Paris 1996).
Carlos has been heard in solo performances in Canada, Finland, France, Spain and Sweden. He made his orchestral debut with the Fribourg Chamber Orchestra at the age of 14 in Bach's f-minor concerto. He has also appeared as a soloist with the Philharmonisches Staatsorchester Halle, the Gävle Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra.

In addition to his solo career, Carlos has considerable chamber music and accompaniment experience. He has performed at the Gotland Chamber Music Festival. He regularly serves as accompanist at KMH as well as during summer courses of the Gotland Music Academy. He has also had engagements with the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra, Västerås Sinfonietta and The Swedish Chamber Orchestra.
